The Government of the Kingdom of Morocco through the Morocco Agency For International Cooperation has donated some 2000 metric tonnes of fertiliser to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
The donation is part of a broader cooperation agreement between the two countries focused on food security, which also includes technical support for building a fertilizer manufacturing plant in Ghana in the near future.
The gesture is a significant step towards achieving food security and economic growth in Ghana, demonstrating the commitment of both countries to strengthening their strategic partnership in pursuit of sustainable agricultural development and shared prosperity. The collaboration between Ghana and Morocco serves as a model for intra-African cooperation, driving economic growth, enhancing social development, and promoting peace and stability across the continent.
Hon. Okudjeto Ablakwa, the Minister for Foreign Affairs,in a speech highlighted the crucial role of the Ministry in facilitating diplomatic relations between Ghana and Morocco, emphasizing that the donation was a testament to the impactful diplomacy of the Ministry. He stated, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs really engages in impactful diplomacy, and the work we do directly benefits peace.”
Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Imani Ouaadil expressed her hope that the fertilizer would contribute to helping Ghanaian farmers improve crop production and meet the country’s food security goals. She described the donation as a symbol of the renewed friendship and bond of cordiality and brotherhood between the two countries.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture’s Response
Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. John Dumelo received the donation on behalf of the Honourable Minister, Hon. Eric Opoku (MP), and expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Kingdom of Morocco for the timely and strategic intervention. He assured that the fertilizer would be deployed efficiently and transparently under hardworking farmers across the country.
