Traditional Leaders Discuss Unity, Youth Empowerment, and National Development

The Paramount Chief of Shai and Greater Accra’s representative on the Council of State, His Royal Majesty Drolor Bosso Amamtey Awah V, has paid a courtesy call on the revered Nungua Gborbu Wolomo, known in private life as Stephen Akwetey, at his shrine in Nungua.

The visit was marked by deep dialogue on regional development, the welfare of the youth, national unity, and the advancement of the Greater Accra Region.

“It is just appropriate for me to visit such a leader, one who has done a lot to alleviate the pressures and concerns within Greater Accra,” the Shai Mantse said. “It is also important for me to consult with someone who has shown deep interest in chieftaincy matters and the broader concerns of our people.”

Describing the Gborbu Wolomo as “a pivotal figure,” His Majesty Drolor Bosso Amamtey Awah V praised him for his tireless efforts in promoting peace, addressing legitimacy issues, and preserving cultural heritage.

The Shai Mantse emphasized the value of engaging with traditional leaders who “have the heartbeat of the region” and understand its unique challenges and identity.

Touching on youth empowerment, he noted the urgency of intentional interventions.

“Giving youth hope is not automatic. We must be intentional about inspiring them, bringing them together, and creating space for them to thrive. Energetic young people without prospects are a risk to national morale,” he warned.

The visit also served as an opportunity for the Shai Mantse to commend the current administration led by President John Dramani Mahama.

“It’s been just seven months, but we’re already seeing the impact. There’s more peace and renewed hope. Ghanaians feel that we’re in a better time,” he said. “I am very satisfied and confident in the President’s vision and the team around him.”

For his part, the Nungua Gborbu Wolomo expressed strong optimism about the path ahead, particularly in resolving long-standing challenges within the Greater Accra Region.

“We have the right calibre of people who understand the integrity of our situation,” he said. “I believe we are on the right track to address the pertinent issues that confront us as a people.”

He called for unity, collaboration, and resilience among indigenous leadership to drive meaningful transformation across the region.

The engagement between the two respected traditional leaders reinforces the growing consensus that purposeful leadership, cultural pride, and cooperation are essential ingredients for peace and sustainable development in Greater Accra and beyond.
