TRADE MINISTRY COMMISERATES WITH INSTITUTIONS OF GHANA’S 8 FALLEN HEROES

A delegation from the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, led by the Sector Minister, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, joined many others from home and abroad to commiserate with the families and institutions mourning Ghana’s eight fallen heroes. The visit which took place on Thursday, 14th August 2025, following the tragic August 6 military helicopter crash in Adansi, which claimed the lives of senior government officials and military officers.

The delegation visited the Ministries of Defence, Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to extend their condolences to management and staff.

At MESTI and NADMO, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare expressed her deep shock at the incident and its circumstances, noting that her visit was to offer the Ministry’s support and to empathise with them. She later signed the book of condolences in honour of the departed.

The Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, provided a detailed background to the incident, outlining those who were on board and explaining what transpired. He took the opportunity to caution the media and the public against fabricating stories about the tragedy, urging them to be considerate of the feelings of the bereaved families and the dignity of those who had passed away.

The NADMO Boss, Major(rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, on his part, appreciated the Minister and her entourage for the visit, saying that such visits consoles them as they look forward to the final funeral rights which is scheduled to take place on Friday, 15th August, 2025 at the Black Star Square in Accra.

Also at NADMO, a Guard of Honour was mounted in recognition of the Trade Minister’s presence, after which she laid a wreath in remembrance of the fallen.

At the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), the Chief Director of the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Mr. Noah Tumfo, on behalf of the Minister expressed his sorrow over the loss of the Minister for Environment and the other seven victims.

He emphasised that their passing was not only a loss to MESTI but also to the trade sector. “The pain is one that will linger for a while with all of us. We are here to commiserate with you on behalf of our Minister. It is a national loss,” he said.

The Chief Director of MESTI, Madam Sweibatu Adams, in her response, expressed gratitude for the visit. “It has not been easy, but your support and prayers have kept us going. We are very happy and grateful for your presence and support. The more people come, the more we feel consoled. Thank you on behalf of the Caretaker Minister and Deputy Minister,” she stated.
