‘Dr. Omane Boamah Mapped Akwatia By-Election Strategy Hours Before His Death’ — NDC’s Tanko-Computer

Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko-Computer, has revealed that Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah spent the morning of his tragic death deeply engaged in election planning.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Tanko-Computer painted a picture of a methodical and dedicated strategist:

“Around 7:45 am, Dr. Omane was giving us strategies on how to go about the Akwatia by-election… He was behind all these things that we’re doing [in winning elections]… He would sit down, put pen and paper together, map up the strategy… then say, ‘You go and handle this and that’ and we’d deliver an A+. That is how he was.”

He further revealed that the meeting was conducted virtually, an approach typical of Dr. Boamah, who preferred leveraging social media and virtual platforms to maximise efficiency:

“In fact, in the morning, we had a close discussion with Dr. Omane Boamah around 7 am. It was virtual… He was a type who wants to maximise time…”

Despite their planning and optimistic strategy prep for the day, none of the team members were aware of the minister’s travel plans:

“So that morning, we had finished all this thing, and were to report back to him by evening, but he didn’t tell us that he was travelling. None of us knew he was going to travel.”

The helicopter crash in the Adansi-Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025, claimed the lives of Dr. Boamah and seven others. President John Mahama has since ordered a high-level Investigative Board of Inquiry to determine the cause.
