President John Dramani Mahama has announced posthumous promotions for three fallen military officers, pledging the government’s full support for their families and especially their children, as the nation continues to mourn their tragic loss.
Speaking at a national memorial service, the President delivered a heartfelt address that resonated with emotion and resolve. “Families and the nation as a whole have been reminded of how fragile life can be. But in the midst of this grief, we can embrace the vision we shared with our fallen brothers, for a stronger and more prosperous homeland,” he said.
President Mahama stressed that the tragedy must not lead to despair but rather inspire national unity and compassion. “What we can do together as a nation is make sure that the lives of those who remain, specifically the children of our eight brothers, do not become the collateral damage of this tragedy,” he urged.
He went on to declare the government’s commitment to honouring the service of the fallen and protecting the futures of their dependents. “I would like today to announce the government’s decisions to honour the service of these individuals and secure the futures of those they left behind,” he said, adding that “I humbly request the spirit of compassion that is the hallmark of our nation for these bereaved families.”
In a show of deep national respect, President Mahama confirmed the posthumous promotions of the three servicemen, noting that such promotions are the military’s highest tribute. “Promotions in our armed forces are never given lightly,” he said. “Posthumous promotions are the highest mark of respect for duty performed even unto death.”
The officers honoured are:
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, promoted to the rank of Wing Commander.
- Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu, promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant.
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, promoted to the rank of Flight Sergeant.
“These are not just promotions. They are enduring symbols of bravery, loyalty, and national service,” President Mahama stated.
The President’s message also included a strong appeal to Ghanaians to stand with the affected families. He promised that the nation would not turn its back on the loved ones left behind and called on all sectors of society to uphold the legacy of the fallen heroes.
