President John Mahama has announced the creation of a special fund to support the children of those who died in the 6th August military helicopter crash.
Addressing the nation during a solemn ceremony, the President said the new fund will ensure that the children left behind by the victims receive the support, care, and opportunities they need to thrive.
“The purpose of this fund is clear…It is to ensure that the children left behind will never be deprived of the opportunities, the care, and the security that their parents worked so hard to provide for them,” he said.
The Children’s Support Fund, according to the President, will provide financial assistance to help cover the children’s education, health, and general well-being. He stressed that the government is committed to making sure these young lives are not left behind.
President Mahama reminded Ghanaians of the country’s long-standing tradition of community care and responsibility.
“We Ghanaians live in a culture that upholds collective responsibility, especially where community and family are concerned.” Encouraging the nation to reflect, he added: “Think about it. How often do we meet one another and ask about their child?”
The President’s message struck a strong emotional chord, calling not just for sympathy but for real action and national solidarity. He posited that this fund is not just a symbolic gesture, but a practical promise, a way to carry forward the love and duty that the fallen parents had for their children.
