After delivering his opening keynote address, President John Dramani Mahama visited the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and Biopolis, two institutions central to Singapore’s advancement in education, science, and innovation.
At SIT, Singapore’s first university of applied learning, President Mahama was briefed on how the institution integrates industry-relevant degree programmes with applied research to prepare graduates for the future world of work.
With its unique pedagogy that blends classroom learning and real-world industry experience, SIT is regarded as a model for aligning higher education with national economic needs.
The President also learned about the university’s new centralised campus at the Punggol Digital District, which fosters close collaboration between academia, industry, and the wider community.
Later, President Mahama toured Biopolis, located in the one-north research hub, which is recognised as Singapore’s premier centre for biomedical sciences.
Biopolis brings together leading public and private research institutions, covering the entire value chain of life sciences—from drug discovery to clinical development and medical technology. It has become a hub for innovation, driving both public–private sector collaboration and Singapore’s economic growth strategy in biotechnology.
The visits formed part of President Mahama’s broader engagement to understand Singapore’s approaches to education and research, as well as opportunities for knowledge-sharing and partnerships with Ghana.
