The Ministry of Health’s investigative committee has released a report on the viral assault at Ridge Hospital, revealing a significant discrepancy between the nurse’s claims and medical findings.
The committee found no medical evidence to substantiate the claim that the rotation nurse, Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, suffered a dislocated shoulder during the altercation.
During the report’s presentation to the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh today, Wednesday, August 27, Committee Chairman Dr. Lawrence Ofori-Boadu stated that medical records did not show a fracture to the nurse’s left wrist or a dislocation in her right shoulder joint. This was based on an examination conducted on August 18, a day after the incident.
Despite the lack of a fracture or dislocation, the report noted that the nurse was treated, given pain medication, advised to rest, and provided with psychological support to help her cope with the ordeal.
The findings come after widespread public concern and condemnation from professional bodies following the release of a viral video depicting the assault on hospital staff.
The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, established the committee in response to the public outcry to get to the bottom of the matter.
