The government of Ghana is committed to a forward-looking, proactive, and economically driven foreign policy for the 21st century, the Chief of Staff d, Julius Debrah declared at the closing ceremony of the 4th Made-in-Ghana Bazaar.

In an address at the conclusion of the conference for Heads of Missions and Orientation Program for newly appointed envoys, Julius Debrah, emphasized that Ghana’s foreign policy will continue to be anchored in the principles of peace, security, and continental progress. However, it will also be re-energized by strategic priorities designed to promote national interests on the global stage.

These priorities, according to him include economic diplomacy as a cornerstone, with a focus on industrialization, trade, and investment to create jobs and facilitate technology transfer, making Ghana’s missions abroad engines of economic growth. He explained that the government will also reinvigorate Pan-Africanism and regional integration by deepening its commitment to bodies like ECOWAS and the African Union, and by advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) for shared prosperity.

Another key priority he highlighted is diaspora engagement. The Chief of Staff affirmed the government’s recognition of the Ghanaian diaspora as a vital partner in national development, encouraging investment, skills transfer, and cultural diplomacy. as the nation is expected to take a leadership role in climate justice, advocating for equitable global climate action and securing support for its own green transition and resilience-building efforts.

He added that the government is committed to modernizing the foreign service by investing in the capacity, welfare, and technological empowerment of its diplomatic personnel to meet evolving global challenges. The Chief of Staff stressed that these new envoys have a paramount role in translating this vision into tangible benefits for the Ghanaian people. According to Debrah, “there shall never be an excuse whatsoever when you (appointees) cross the line.”

“I have no doubt that this joint event of the Conference of Heads of Missions and the orientation of newly appointed envoys has enabled our participants to exchange knowledge and ideas that will inure to the benefit of our esteemed diplomatic service and bring practical gains to the good people of Ghana.” He stated.

“A team spirit and synergy that have been built over the five-day training period will enable you to work in unison in our collective quest towards national building. Honorable ministers, excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, tonight we gather here also to celebrate the outstanding contributions of individuals whose service of several decades has greatly influenced Ghana’s reputation and outstanding achievements on the international stage.”

Dr. Obed Yao Asamoah was honored as a “true giant of Ghanaian diplomacy and international law,” recognized for his intellectual vigor and steadfast commitment to Ghana’s sovereignty and African unity during his tenure as Foreign Minister.

Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas was acknowledged for bringing “immense prestige to Ghana,” celebrated for his tireless efforts in conflict prevention, mediation, and promoting democratic governance at the highest levels of regional and international organizations.

Ambassador James Victor Gbeho was commended for his “profound understanding of international affairs,” recognized for his exceptional leadership and advocacy for regional integration and stability.

Ambassador Chris Kpodo was praised for his professionalism and for consistently representing Ghana’s image positively, fostering strong bilateral ties, and providing exemplary leadership to missions abroad.

Ambassador Richard Maximilian Akwei was honored for his “principled diplomacy and dedicated service,” recognized as one of Ghana’s first permanent representatives to the United Nations who articulated a bold, distinctly African voice on the global stage.

The Chief of Staff concluded by urging the newly appointed envoys to be inspired by the dedication and achievements of these diplomatic giants. He also extended his commendation to the Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their hard work in organizing the successful conference.
