The administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund(Mahama Cares), Obuobia Darko-Opoku has visited the Greater Accra Regional Hospital to as part of the funds plan to identify, prioritize, and address the health needs and resource gaps in the health facility.
It is designed to provide a comprehensive picture of the state of the facilities in the hospital, particularly in the fight against non-communicable diseases.
The administrator and her team assessed the availability and condition of essential diagnostic and treatment equipment such as dialysis machines, CT scanners, amongst others.
They also examined service delivery gaps including patient flow, referral systems, and access to specialist care, while gathering data on patient demographics, disease burden, treatment outcomes, and the financial impact of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

In his presentation, the Medical Director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Dr. Leslie Issa Adam-Zakariah revealed that the hospital is facing a significant lack of essential equipment thereby making it unable to work to its full capacity.
He mentioned that diagnostic tools like X-ray, CT Scan, Mammogram machines and MRI machines at the hospital have broken down leading to treatment delays.
Dr. Zakaria was elated about the timely intervention by the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, saying that the replacement of the faulty essential equipments will help the hospital immensely.
In her response, Obuobia Darko – Opoku, the administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund expressed surprise at the lack of essential equipments at such a critical facility which provides care to over eighty patients on a daily basis.
She emphasized that the Ghana Medical Trust Fund is determined to provide support to all the health facilities lacking the much needed tools.
She noted that the Fund will ensure that all resources gathered are directed toward interventions that deliver the greatest impact; training specialists, supporting medical research, and improving hospital facilities, all aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery, saving lives, and improving patient outcomes nationwide.
