The Ghana Police Service has successfully dismantled a major armed robbery gang responsible for a series of attacks on financial institutions across several regions. This significant breakthrough was announced by the Inspector-General of Police at a press conference held today at the National Police Headquarters.
Speaking to the press, the Inspector-General, Christian Tetteh Yohunu detailed the operation, which began after the Service identified a common pattern in robberies targeting rural banks over the past year. “My team and I, after analyzing these robberies, observed a similar pattern and immediately got to work,” he stated.

The operation, which involved extensive investigations, collaboration with informants, data analysis, and surveillance, took police across the Ahafo, Western, Central, Eastern, and Ashanti regions. The targeted operation led to arrests in several towns, including Esereso Adagya, Ejisu Achiaakrom, Atonsu-Kyirapatre, and Obuasi.
”I am delighted to announce that we have successfully dismantled the gang behind all these robberies,” the Inspector-General declared. He confirmed that ten suspects have been arrested, while three others were fatally shot during a shootout with police. A manhunt is currently underway for the remaining suspects who are at large.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of 14 weapons, including AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, pistols, and a single-barrel gun, along with ammunition, vehicles, and mobile phones.

The Inspector-General commended the Ashanti Regional Police Commander and his intelligence team for their critical role in the operation’s success. He also extended his gratitude to all officers involved and, notably, to the members of the public who provided credible information that contributed to the breakthrough.
In his concluding remarks, Christian Tetteh Yohunu reassured the public of the police’s commitment to making the environment “uncomfortable for criminal elements.” He called on the public to remain vigilant and to continue providing information to assist in ongoing investigations, reminding them that the Service rewards credible tips.
