Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on Wednesday hosted H.E. Rune Skinnebach, the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Ghana, in a fruitful discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral and regional cooperation.
During the engagement, the Vice President stressed the importance of cultivating sincere and transformative partnerships especially in the face of evolving global dynamics. She called for a review of existing agreements, the identification of gaps and the strengthening of collaborations grounded in fairness, mutual respect and shared strategic priorities.
“Peace forms the foundation for development. Taking a preventive approach to security issues is more effective, sustainable, and cost-efficient than waiting to act after crises emerge,” she noted, emphasizing the need for collective will, early intervention and strong institutional cooperation to maintain stability.
The dialogue also touched on new opportunities across the continent, with particular attention to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Professor Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to fully harnessing the AfCFTA to solidify its role as a regional center for trade and integration.
The Vice President expressed gratitude to the EU for its longstanding partnership and reiterated Ghana’s desire to deepen cooperation in pursuit of peace, prosperity, and shared development.
