The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) has formally refuted recent media reports alleging that the Government of Ghana intends to grant bauxite concessions in the Nyinahin area to businessman Mr. Ibrahim Mahama.
In a statement issued by the Corporation’s Management, GIADEC denied the claims, stating for the avoidance of doubt that no such plan exists. The Corporation emphasized that under the current government’s vision to reposition Ghana to fully benefit from its natural resources, GIADEC was granted the mandate to hold leases over all known bauxite reserves in the country.
This strategic move, according to the statement was intended to provide the Corporation with a firm foundation to carry out its legal mandate and attract the necessary investments and partnerships for the sector.
In accordance with this executive approval, GIADEC revealed that it obtained six mining leases over various bauxite concessions, including those located in Nyinahin, in June 2025. These leases have since been submitted to Parliament and are currently undergoing the required ratification process.
GIADEC further clarified that under the existing policy framework, bauxite concessions are to remain with the Corporation as the sole leaseholder. Management noted that measures are currently being implemented to ensure this arrangement remains permanent, providing stability for the industry long after the current administration’s tenure.
The statement concluded by urging the general public to disregard any publications suggesting that the government plans to grant these concessions to any individual, describing such reports as entirely false.
