Management of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has held a high-level review meeting with the leadership of Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) to evaluate the progress of their partnership and strengthen the delivery of specialized healthcare services to patients.

The meeting, held at Tamale Teaching Hospital on Monday, assessed the implementation of the Trust Fund’s pilot phase, reviewed patient onboarding and treatment processes, and addressed operational challenges that could affect the smooth expansion of the programme.

A major focus of the discussions was the Trust Fund’s 50-patient pilot initiative. Under the programme, Tamale Teaching Hospital has successfully provided specialist care to four patients referred through the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.

The review gave both institutions the opportunity to evaluate lessons learned from the pilot phase, identify best practices, and outline improvements needed as the initiative scales up.

Speaking at the meeting, Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, emphasized the importance of maintaining close collaboration with partner hospitals to ensure patients receive timely, quality, and uninterrupted care.

She said the engagement was aimed at gathering first-hand feedback on patient onboarding and treatment while identifying and resolving operational bottlenecks.

“We want to ensure that every eligible patient who comes onto the programme is able to access treatment without unnecessary delays. It is important that we work closely with our partner hospitals to address any operational challenges early so that they do not affect patient care,” she said.

Ms. Darko-Opoku reaffirmed the Trust Fund’s commitment to working with healthcare institutions nationwide to improve access to specialist treatment for Ghanaians living with chronic diseases.

Management of Tamale Teaching Hospital described the engagement as timely and valuable, expressing appreciation for the Trust Fund’s collaborative approach. The hospital also reaffirmed its commitment to providing high-quality care to beneficiaries of the programme.

The meeting ended with both institutions agreeing on practical measures to improve patient onboarding, resolve operational challenges, and deepen collaboration to ensure the Ghana Medical Trust Fund continues to provide life-saving support to patients across the country.
