Editor of The Herald newspaper, Larry Alans Dogbe has filed a Notice of Appeal challenging a seven-day custodial sentence imposed by the High Court following the publication of a petition by Petraco SA alleging a multi-million-dollar fraud.
According to the journalist, lawyers filed the appeal hours after the sentence was handed down by Justice Isaac Addo on June 25, 2026.
The appeal seeks to overturn the custodial sentence, which arose from the publication of Petraco SA’s petition alleging a fraud exceeding US$90 million. The petition named businessman Kevin Okyere, Geena Malkani Punjabi, Emmanuel Ansah Bernasko, and other individuals in connection with the allegations.
The journalist maintains that the publication was in the public interest and has opted to challenge the ruling through the appellate process.
The outcome of the appeal is expected to determine whether the custodial sentence will be upheld, varied, or set aside.
The allegations contained in Petraco SA’s petition remain matters of dispute, and no court has made a final determination on the fraud claims. The appeal process is also pending before the appropriate appellate court.
