Women in the maritime industry have been encouraged to embrace the spirit of generosity and shared support as the world marks International Women’s Day 2026 under the theme “Give to Gain.”
The celebration, observed annually on March 8, recognizes the achievements of women while reinforcing the global call for gender equality and empowerment across all sectors of society.
Speaking ahead of the commemoration, organizers noted that this year’s theme highlights the importance of giving through mentorship, knowledge sharing, advocacy, and resource support as a means of creating opportunities for women to thrive.
According to them, giving should not be seen as a loss but rather an investment that yields greater impact for individuals, communities, and industries.
“Giving whether through time, knowledge, mentorship, resources, or advocacy is not a loss, but an intentional investment that multiplies impact. When women succeed, communities and industries grow stronger,” the organizers emphasized.
This year’s celebration will place particular focus on women in the maritime industry, an area where efforts are being intensified to encourage more female participation and leadership.
As part of the activities lined up for the commemoration, several initiatives aimed at empowering women in maritime will be rolled out.
These include mentorship programmes such as the Go to Sea Campaign, leadership and skills training sessions, community service initiatives, resource sharing, and the recognition of outstanding women who have made significant contributions to the sector.
Organizers say the programmes are designed to strengthen professional networks among women, build confidence, enhance technical and leadership skills, and promote both personal and professional growth.
“Through mentorship, training, and volunteerism, we hope to build a strong support system that empowers more women to pursue opportunities within the maritime industry and reach their full potential,” they stated.
They further stressed that the theme “Give to Gain” serves as a reminder that collective progress is achieved when individuals lift others along the way.
“By supporting and uplifting one another, we not only empower women but also contribute to building a more inclusive, innovative, and resilient maritime industry,” the organizers added.
International Women’s Day continues to serve as a global platform for celebrating the achievements of women while advocating for greater inclusion, equal opportunities, and sustainable progress for women across all fields of endeavour.
