Motorists travelling from Accra toward Madina on the N4 highway will face temporary lane closures starting Monday, March 9, 2026, as construction work intensifies on the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Bridge expansion project.
The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), acting on behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, announced the traffic adjustment in a public notice, explaining that the move is necessary to allow engineers carry out T-beam launching works for the interchange bridge expansion.
The Authority stated that lanes on the N4 Northbound carriageway (Accra to Madina direction) will be temporarily closed, while traffic will be redirected to the opposite side of the road.
“During this period, lanes on the N4 Northbound Carriageway (Accra to Madina direction) will be temporarily closed,” the statement said.
To manage traffic flow, the Southbound carriageway (Madina to Accra direction), which currently has four lanes will be reconfigured to allow two lanes of traffic in each direction.
“The Southbound Carriageway (Madina to Accra direction), which currently comprises four lanes, will be reconfigured into two lanes in each direction to accommodate traffic flow from Accra to Madina and vice versa,” the notice explained.
According to the GHA, the temporary traffic arrangement is expected to remain in place for about four months as construction progresses.
The lane reduction, it added, is intended to provide a safe working environment for construction personnel while ensuring the continued safety of motorists using the motorway.
Motorists have therefore been urged to remain vigilant and comply with traffic directives throughout the construction period.
“Motorists are kindly advised to exercise caution, observe all traffic signs, and cooperate with traffic management officials throughout the duration of the works,” the Authority cautioned.
The traffic arrangement forms part of the broader Accra–Tema Motorway and Extension Projects, aimed at improving road infrastructure and easing congestion along one of the country’s busiest transport corridors.
