President John Dramani Mahama has inspected ongoing construction works on the Jinijini–Sampa road, assuring residents of government’s commitment to completing the long-awaited project as part of efforts to improve road infrastructure in the Bono Region.

Addressing community members during the inspection, the President expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

“During our campaign, we made a clear promise to the people of Ghana, that when given the mandate, we would practise open and fair governance and remain accountable to the people at all times. That is the commitment we are delivering on today,” he said.

Accountability Series Launched

President Mahama explained that the visit forms part of the government’s Accountability Series, which has commenced in the Bono Region to foster direct engagement with citizens.

“It is an opportunity for you to hear directly from government, and also for us to listen to your concerns so we can continue to improve,” he noted, encouraging chiefs, queen mothers, and residents to participate in the main engagement session in Sunyani.

Signs of Economic Stability

The President also highlighted improvements in Ghana’s economic performance, pointing to declining inflation and a stabilising currency.

“Inflation, which stood at 23.4 percent when I assumed office, has reduced significantly. The cedi has also stabilised against the dollar, moving from 17 cedis to approximately 10.7 cedis,” he stated.

He added that the improved stability is restoring investor confidence and attracting increased foreign direct investment into the country.

Key Government Initiatives

President Mahama outlined several flagship programmes aimed at accelerating national development, including the “Big Push,” “Mahama Cares,” “Nkoko Nkitinkiti,” and the 24-hour market initiative.

He referenced the recent sod-cutting ceremony for a 24-hour market project in Dormaa, which is expected to boost local commerce.

“That project will create more opportunities for traders and support economic activity,” he said.

Commitment to Completing Jinijini–Sampa Road

Touching on the road project, the President acknowledged past challenges but gave firm assurance of its completion.

“We are committed to completing this road,” he stressed. According to him, the Jinijini–Sampa stretch will be fully asphalted and completed by 2027.

“By the end of 2027, the stretch from Jinijini to Sampa will be completed. We will return to commission it together with you,” he promised.

Call for Public Participation

President Mahama concluded by urging residents to actively participate in the ongoing accountability engagements.
“Come and listen to what government has done, and also share your concerns with us. Your input is important as we work together to build a better Ghana,” he appealed.
