President John Dramani Mahama has announced that farmers across Ghana will receive free fertilizers this year, in a move aimed at helping them recover from significant post-harvest losses recorded last season.
The President made the announcement during a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the first Farmers Service Centre at Kwahu Afram Plains South District in the Eastern Region.
Addressing farmers and community members at the event, President Mahama acknowledged the challenges faced by farmers in the previous farming season and assured them of government support.
“We are aware of the difficulties many of our farmers went through last year, particularly due to post-harvest losses. This year, government will provide free fertilizers to support you and help you recover,” he stated.
He explained that the intervention forms part of a broader strategy to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen food security across the country.
“Agriculture remains the backbone of our economy.
Supporting our farmers is not optional it is essential for national development, job creation, and ensuring that every Ghanaian has access to food,” the President emphasized.
President Mahama also highlighted the importance of the Farmers Service Centres, describing them as a transformative initiative designed to provide farmers with access to modern tools, inputs, and technical support.
“These Farmers Service Centres will serve as one-stop hubs where farmers can access mechanization services, inputs, and training to improve their productivity and livelihoods,” he added.
The establishment of the centre at Kwahu Afram Plains South marks the first of several such facilities expected to be rolled out across the country as part of government’s agricultural modernization agenda.
