The National Health Insurance Authority has called on institutions across Ghana to prioritize mental well-being in the workplace, stressing that healthy and productive organizations are built on empathy, supportive leadership, and open communication.
The call was made during a high-level roundtable discussion on workplace mental health, where the Authority emphasized the importance of creating professional environments that support employees psychologically as well as professionally.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, Deputy CEO Anatu Seidu Bogobiri described mental health as a critical foundation that influences how people work, lead, interact, and perform.
She urged leaders in both the public and private sectors to break the silence surrounding mental health challenges in the workplace and foster cultures where employees feel comfortable seeking support.
“Leaders must create environments where individuals feel safe to speak up and access support without fear of stigma or judgment,” she stated.
Participants at the forum highlighted the growing importance of preventive healthcare and early intervention strategies within organizations, noting that sustainable institutions must place equal value on employee well-being and productivity.
Madam Bogobiri also commended the CEO of the NHIA, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, for championing staff welfare and promoting policies that support institutional well-being.
According to the Authority, workplace mental health initiatives should go beyond occasional seminars and become an integral part of daily organizational culture.
The NHIA said it envisions a professional environment across Ghana that is both productive and compassionate, where mental health support is treated as a fundamental employee right rather than an optional benefit.
The Authority further stressed the need for continuous dialogue and sustained action to build workplaces that are healthy, supportive, and resilient for all employees.
