The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, visited Akyempin to assess the extent of damage caused by a fire outbreak that ravaged parts of the community on Tuesday evening.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m. on June 23, destroyed a two-bedroom house and a kitchen, leaving the affected household with substantial losses.
Household items, personal belongings, and other property worth thousands of Ghana cedis were completely consumed by the fire.
According to residents, community members swiftly mobilized and managed to contain the blaze before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the scene.
Their prompt action prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and causing further devastation.
During the assessment visit, NADMO officials inspected the affected area and gathered relevant information to determine the extent of the damage and identify possible support interventions for the victims.
Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were recorded, as all occupants of the building escaped unharmed.
Speaking during the visit, NADMO officials emphasized the importance of fire safety and prevention measures.
They urged residents to regularly inspect electrical wiring and appliances, avoid unsafe electrical connections, and promptly report fire incidents to the appropriate authorities to reduce the risk of damage and loss of life.
The affected family has appealed to the public and relevant institutions for assistance as they begin efforts to rebuild their lives following the disaster.
NADMO reaffirmed its commitment to supporting affected communities and strengthening public awareness on disaster prevention and emergency response measures.
