The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), in collaboration with the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), has arrested a key suspect in connection with a major international drug trafficking operation involving a 320-kilogram shipment of methamphetamine valued at approximately $296 million.
According to a statement issued by NACOC on June 24, 2026, the arrest marks the first breakthrough in an ongoing investigation into the methamphetamine consignment, which was traced to a storage facility in Girraween, Australia, in April this year.
The Commission described the arrest as a significant development in efforts to expose and dismantle the criminal syndicate allegedly responsible for transporting and diverting the record-breaking drug haul.
Investigators are currently working with international law enforcement partners to identify and apprehend other suspects believed to be linked to what authorities describe as a wider multi-jurisdictional drug trafficking network.
NACOC said the arrest represents a pivotal moment in a coordinated international operation aimed at disrupting sophisticated transnational narcotics trafficking activities.
“This development is a critical step in our ongoing mission to disrupt high-level narcotics trafficking,” the statement noted.
The Commission added that intelligence gathered from the suspect is expected to assist authorities in identifying additional members of the global criminal network and strengthening efforts to combat large-scale drug trafficking operations.
NACOC reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with international partners to safeguard the region from the activities of organised drug trafficking groups.
The Commission further disclosed that additional arrests are anticipated as intelligence-led investigations continue across multiple jurisdictions.
The statement was signed by Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations, PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah.
