Vice President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) Jacob Anaba has restated the opposition of the union to the reopening of schools.
Government has announced that final year and second year Gold Track students in Senior High Schools would resume school on June 22, 2020 to prepare for their exit exams and complete their academic work.
Speaking to Sena Nombo on the Gold Power Drive Jacob Anaba insists NAGRAT’s preference was for the schools to remain closed until the COVID-19 pandemic is brought under control.
He however said NAGRAT had communicated to government the conditions under which they would reconsider their stance and encourage their members to turn up in the classrooms.
Jacob Anaba said the key condition they communicated to government was the need to test everyone who would turn up in the schools.
The NAGRAT Vice President said they asked government to ensure the testing of all teaching, non-teaching staffs, students and visitors.
He said this would assure apprehensive parents that their students were safe and would not be unduly exposed to the disease.
Mr. Anaba said NAGRAT expects the education ministry and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to put in place preventive measures before school reopens else they will advise their members against working in the school environment.
