The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, says the Authority is stepping up efforts to strengthen fire safety and emergency preparedness within the Tema Export Processing Zone (EPZ) following the recent fire outbreak at the Melcom warehouse.
Leading a management delegation to inspect the affected facility, Dr. Awusi said the visit was intended to assess the extent of the damage, express solidarity with Melcom, and engage stakeholders on measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

During the inspection, the delegation met with Melcom representative Mr. Govind and the Tema Regional Fire Officer, who briefed them on the circumstances surrounding the fire and the emergency response mounted by the Ghana National Fire Service.

The GFZA CEO further disclosed that the Authority, in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service, has commenced investigations into the cause of the fire to establish its origin and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences.

She reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and resilient operating environment for businesses, assuring investors that every effort will be made to strengthen safety standards across the Free Zones enclave.
