Power supply has been restored to all areas affected by a system disturbance on Ghana’s national electricity grid, the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has confirmed.
GRIDCo said power was fully restored by 12:03 p.m. on Thursday following immediate efforts by its engineers and technical teams across the power sector to stabilise the network and restore supply.
In a statement released on Friday, August 21, 2026, the company said the restoration process was carried out swiftly to minimise the impact of the disturbance on customers.

The company apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked the public for its patience and understanding during the outage.
“GRIDCo appreciates the patience, understanding and support of the public, as well as the continued cooperation of all stakeholders,” the company stated.GRIDCo said it would continue implementing measures to improve the reliability, stability and resilience of Ghana’s transmission network.
Incorporated in December 2006, GRIDCo operates the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS), transmitting electricity to 33 bulk customers and distribution utilities from 11 wholesale suppliers, including the Volta River Authority (VRA).
