The Ministry of Health has extended the deadline for nurses and other allied health professionals recently recruited and posted to various districts to report to their assigned facilities.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 24, 2026, the Ministry said the new deadline is August 31, 2026, describing the extension as the final notice to all affected professionals.
The Ministry urged all professionals who have been interviewed, screened and assigned to facilities to take advantage of the extension and report to their respective duty posts within the stipulated period.
It also clarified that professionals who have already reported for duty and commenced the process for mechanisation should continue with the necessary procedures. Some of the recruited workers have already been captured on the payroll and are receiving their salaries.
The Ministry explained that the recruitment and salary payment process begins after it receives financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance, after which the recruitment portal is opened for eligible applicants.
Applicants then apply for postings to their preferred districts and undergo interviews. Successful candidates accept their postings and report to their assigned facilities.
The facilities subsequently confirm the applicants’ assumption of duty and submit the required documentation to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) or other relevant agencies.
An appointment letter is then generated by the appropriate agency to enable the professional to complete the processes required for salary input.
According to the Ministry, salaries are paid only after the salary input process has been completed, validated by the facility and processed by the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD).
It stressed that every recruited professional must go through the established procedures before salary payment can be effected.
The Ministry said the system is designed to ensure that only eligible professionals who have actually assumed duty are paid, while preventing payments for work not done and the creation of ghost names on the payroll.
It has consequently directed Human Resource Directors and other relevant officers to expedite the processes required to capture eligible professionals who have reported for duty and facilitate their salary payments.
Directors and Managers have also been instructed to use the September data entry window to mechanise all professionals who have assumed duty.
The Ministry warned that professionals who fail to report by August 31 without an approved and justifiable reason will have their names removed from the recruitment and posting system.
Such vacancies, it said, will subsequently be filled through a mop-up exercise scheduled for the first week of September.
The Ministry of Health therefore urged all affected nurses and allied health professionals to report to their assigned facilities before the deadline to avoid losing their postings.
