Ghana’s Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has called for deeper collaboration among African nations and stronger global investment in the continent’s energy sector, stressing that Africa must be viewed as the next frontier for sustainable energy solutions.
Speaking as a panellist at the ongoing Gastech 2025 in Houston, Texas, Mr. Jinapor joined a high-level discussion on “Powering Growth & Prosperity in High Potential Economies Through Widened Access to Affordable, Reliable, and Flexible Energy.”
The Minister emphasised that Africa’s energy policies must be shaped within a continental framework, arguing that collective strategies will accelerate development and industrialisation across the region.
Citing Ghana’s importation of gas from Nigeria to generate electricity—later exported to Burkina Faso, Togo, and Benin—Mr. Jinapor highlighted regional cooperation as a model of shared prosperity.
Reiterating the continent’s growing importance in the global energy landscape, he declared Africa as “the next investment destination,” warning that hesitation could mean missing out on immense opportunities.
“The earlier you invest in Africa, the better. If not, you may be late,” he cautioned, adding that all partnerships in Africa’s energy transition must deliver mutual benefits for investors and African citizens alike.
Mr. Jinapor’s remarks come at a time when Africa is stepping up its bid to attract sustainable energy investments, amid rising demand for affordable, reliable, and flexible power to fuel socio-economic transformation.
