Ghana Football Association and the Black Stars have lost the race to convince the brother of Inaki Williams, Nico Williams, about a potential national team switch.
Nico Williams was born in Spain and therefore is eligible to play for the Spain national team. However, due to the family ties, the player was also eligible to play for Ghana as his mother is of Ghanaian descent.
Inaki Williams and Nico Williams were both in Ghana earlier this year to visit their extended families as well as tour Ghana. It was revealed that the Ghana Football Association had been in discussions with the brothers about playing for the National team.
With his call up to the Spanish National team, Nico Williams’ future is all but confirmed to play for Spain although he can still play for Ghana if he does not play for the national team despite being selected.
The Ghana Football Association will now switch its focus to convincing other international stars such as Eddie Nketiah and Cullum Hudson Odoi.
