Member of Parliament for Ho Central Benjamin Kpodo has expressed misgivings with the reason assigned for the failure of registration machines at seven centers in his constituencies in his constituency.
The centers were among several in the Volta and Greater Accra regions where registration machines failed.
Benjamin Kpodo told Sena Nombo on the Gold Power Drive, Municipal Director of the EC in Ho told him they were waiting for activation codes to kick-start the machines.
The Ho Central MP said the reason assigned did not “sound normal.”
He wondered whether the EC was yet to receive the codes from the suppliers or the registrant officers were not properly trained on the use of the machines.
Ben Kpodo believes the failure of the machines betrays a lack of readiness of the EC.
The MP revealed the challenges began from day one of the exercise when the EC was only able to start at 20 instead of the 39 registration centers earmarked.
The Electoral Commission has promised to extend phase 3 of the exercise by a day for registration centers where the machine failed.
Ben Kpodo however says the EC needs to consider extending the entire exercise but has promised to ensure the EC keeps it promise on the extra day extension.
