One of the aspirants who suffered a humiliating defeat in the just ended Ashanti Regional Executive Elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has made a damning revelation about how money played a role in how all the winners secured their victories.
The failed 2nd Vice Chairman aspirant and an ardent supporter of John Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, Abraham Boadi who is also a former Presiding Member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) who polled only eleven (11) votes told Kumasi-based Angel FM in an interview that, “they bought all the votes, including mine”.
“I had no chance of getting more than the 11 votes that I had because I had no money to pay; some aspirants paid up to GhC 9000; I can tell you on authority that, each delegate bagged at least Ghc 25000”, he said.
According to him, one of the Regional Chairman aspirants, Robert Asare Bediako who even paid the least, gave each delegate GhC1000; “even on the day of the elections, some of the delegates who said they had bought into my message were chasing me for their envelopes; so I told them that I was joined to the Ghc 1000 that they had already taken from Asare Bediako”.
Apart from the speculations of vote-buying by the aspirants, it was rumoured that a certain chief, whose daughter holds a juicy position in government and a legislator, was doling out wads of US dollar notes to the delegates in order for them to vote for his preferred candidates.
Meanwhile, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the Trades Minister, Alan Kyeremateng who are both eyeing the flagbearership spot for the 2024 elections have claimed to have swept the majority of winners to further their agenda.
It is believed that the two were the main financiers of the campaigns of the winners across all the regions.
