The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has issued a strong warning to heads of agencies and senior managers within Ghana’s energy sector, stating that failure to deliver on performance targets will result in removal from office.
Addressing participants at the Ministry’s performance review retreat, Dr Jinapor said President John Dramani Mahama has set a clear expectation that public-sector leadership must be driven by results, not titles.
“Underperformance will not be tolerated. Heads of agencies and senior management who fail to meet agreed targets or deliver key projects will be removed,”
the Minister stated.
Dr Jinapor described public office as a privilege rather than an entitlement, stressing that it carries a responsibility to demonstrate discipline, professionalism, and accountability in the use of public resources.
He urged agency leaders to treat the retreat as a critical exercise in self-assessment and reform, rather than a routine administrative gathering.
“This is not a threat; it is a call to seriousness, discipline, and results-oriented leadership,”
he emphasised.
Looking ahead to 2026, the Minister challenged institutions under the energy portfolio to move beyond planning and prioritise effective execution, insisting on strategies that are realistic, measurable, and aligned with national development goals.
“We must move from plans to execution, from excuses to solutions, and from fragmented efforts to unified action,”
Dr Jinapor said.
The remarks signal a tougher stance by the Ministry as government seeks to accelerate reforms, improve service delivery, and restore efficiency across Ghana’s energy sector.
