In a startling development, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has accused former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta of orchestrating a raid on his own residence in an attempt to discredit ongoing corruption investigations.
On Tuesday, February 11, a group of individuals dressed in military uniforms reportedly stormed Mr. Ofori-Atta’s home in Cantonments. At the time, the former minister was said to be out of the country, though family members, including his wife, were present. Initial reports indicated that the motive behind the raid was unclear, and it remained undetermined whether any items were taken.
However, during a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng refuted claims that OSP officials were involved in the incident. He alleged that the raid was a deliberate act staged by Mr. Ofori-Atta to mislead the public and undermine the credibility of the OSP’s investigations into his activities.
The OSP has officially declared Mr. Ofori-Atta a suspect in four high-profile corruption cases, including those related to the National Cathedral project and Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML). Mr. Agyebeng emphasized that the former minister is now a wanted individual and must return to Ghana immediately to face questioning. He warned that failure to comply would result in measures being taken to compel his return.
Dismissing assertions that Mr. Ofori-Atta had left the country for medical treatment, the Special Prosecutor insisted on the former minister’s cooperation with the ongoing investigations.
