Mining forests reserves: Forestry Commission is fully aware, CEO must be fired – Fmr. Min.
Former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Alhaji Inusah Fuseini has accused the Forestry Commission of turning a blind eye to the destruction of Ghana’s forests by illegal miners.
The former minister was commenting on the media exposé on the activities of Akonta Mining Company in the Tano Nimiri Forest in the Western region.
The company which belongs to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing NPP Bernard Antwi Bosiako has been actively mining the forest reserve.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources says Akonta Mining had no mining lease to the forest.
Former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Alhaji Inusah Fuseini says the development was widespread and is convinced the Forestry Commission knows about the development.
He told Sena Nombo on the Gold Morning Conversation that the Forestry Commission cannot feign ignorance because its only job was to protect the forests in question.
The former Lands Minister says the Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission must be fired for sleeping on the job.
