VP Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is still insisting that the Government has got an International Civil Aviation Organization (IACO) confirmation for the Ghana Card to be utilized as a traveling document from abroad. He made sense that the public was not set in stone to dispense with the difficulties in getting visas.

Dr. Bawumia showed that a few people have lost their travel papers during the time spent getting visas. This, including the significant expense of visas, he said represented a serious test to Ghanaians.

In any case, he said at the authority send-off of the Accra Business IT program in Accra on Thursday, July 14, that “Ghanaians in the diaspora were bearing the issue and cost of the obtaining of visa by diaspora Ghanaians, many have lost travel papers during the time spent applying for visas from Ghanaian consulates on board.

Yet, we have gotten ICAO confirmation for the Ghana Card to be utilized as a traveling document for movement to Ghana from abroad without the requirement for a visa. Prior, Dr. Bawumia declared that from the principal quarter of 2022, the Ghana Card would have been internationally perceived as an e-identification.

He has demonstrated that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has properly acknowledged the use of the cards as e-identification from the second quarter of 2022. He declared this while tending to a group of people at Ashesi University.

Named ‘Bawumia Speaks’, the occasion was themed ‘Changing An Economy Through Digitalisation: The Ghana Story’. As per the Vice President, Wednesday, October 13, 2021, denoted an achievement for Ghana as the nation was authoritatively gotten as the 79th individual from ICAO.

He said with this move, the nation’s significant recognizable proof report created by the National Identification Authority (NIA) will be permitted as a wellspring of ID – for this situation an e-visa – for worldwide voyages. “This intends that toward the finish of the primary quarter one year from now, the Ghana Card will be perceived universally as an e-identification,” he focused, adding:

“When this occurs, holders of the Ghana Card will be permitted to load onto any trip to Ghana.” Pastor of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, accordingly let Parliament know that the GhanaCard was not an E-visa.

She expressed this on the floor of the House Tuesday, June 14 when found out if the GhanaCard is an e-identification. She said “It isn’t. According to its, it isn’t. The GhanaCard isn’t a substitution for our current biometric visa. GhanaCard might act as a discretionary travel report to be utilized paired with our biometric visa.

“It should be highlighted that the identification, along with the movement authentication is the main supported travel records for the Ghanaian, they are globally perceived. “Right now, the GhanaCard can’t be utilized for movement to different nations either inside beyond ECOWAS as that will require two-sided concurrence with nations for their specialists to acknowledge the card as movement archive.

The Ministry is in dynamic conversation with ECOWAS part states and our reciprocal accomplices to accomplish this.” The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) on February 28 reported to the public that starting Tuesday, March 1, a substantial Ghana Card would be acknowledged for nationals and double nationals getting back to the country.

Concerning, Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey let Parliament know that “But considering the declaration by the Ghana Immigration Service named ‘Notice to the Public: Use of GhanaCard as a movement report which was dated 24th of February, Ghanaian and double public holders of Ghana Card would have the option to head out to Ghana utilizing the Ghana Card.”
