The crisis is over, and our economy has made a robust recovery, says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his last State of the Nation Address in Parliament today.
The President confidently stated that the country’s economic situation had turned a corner, challenging critics who continue to argue that Ghana’s financial health remains precarious. His remarks came amid ongoing discussions regarding the government’s handling of the economy, including the country’s debt restructuring efforts and its agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“The crisis is over, and the economy has recovered strongly… the country is not broke as some propagandists want us to believe,” he declared, defending his administration’s economic management. He also pointed to improvements in the nation’s trade balance, which, according to him, had significantly improved compared to the deficit Ghana faced in 2016, before his tenure.
President Akufo-Addo’s statement prompted a strong reaction from the minority caucus in Parliament, who appeared to disagree with his assessment. Undeterred by the opposition’s objections, the President remarked, “No matter your noise, I’ll put the statistics in the Hansard… truth is indivisible.”
