The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) has embarked on a 13-day investment roadshow across five regions in Northern Ghana to attract investors, mobilise capital and accelerate economic development.
The roadshow, which runs from October 11 to 23, 2026, will cover the Northern, North East, Upper East, Upper West and Savannah Regions, with a focus on connecting investors to identified business opportunities and investment-ready projects.
The initiative forms part of GIPA’s broader strategy to promote investment opportunities across the country ahead of the Invest Ghana Summit, scheduled for November 16 and 17, 2026.
It follows the implementation of the Authority’s Investment Opportunities Mapping Project (IOMP), launched in July 2025, which has identified more than 600 investment-ready projects nationwide.
Of these, 128 project profiles have been identified across the five northern regions, highlighting opportunities in agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, tourism, mining, renewable energy, logistics and trade.
The Upper West Region accounts for the highest number of identified projects, with 45, followed by the Northern Region with 38, Savannah Region with 19, Upper East Region with 16 and North East Region with 10.
According to GIPA, the roadshow is intended to move beyond identifying investment opportunities to actively connecting project owners with potential investors to turn the proposals into viable businesses.
Northern Ghana Attracts $1.91bn in Foreign Investment
Data from GIPA indicate that the five regions recorded 100 registered investment projects between 1994 and June 2026, with an estimated foreign direct investment value of US$1.91 billion.
The investments have largely been concentrated in agriculture and manufacturing, reflecting the role of these sectors in the region’s economic activity.
The Northern Region recorded the highest number of registered investment projects, with 68, followed by the Upper East Region with 14. The North East, Upper West and Savannah Regions recorded seven, six and five projects, respectively.
GIPA believes the existing investment record, together with the newly identified projects, presents opportunities to expand economic activity, attract additional capital and create jobs across the five regions.
GIPA Deputy CEO to Engage Regional Leaders
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GIPA, Abdul Razak Baba, will lead the delegation during engagements with regional ministers, business leaders and other stakeholders.
The team will also pay courtesy calls on traditional authorities, including the Paramount Chief of the Sagnarigu Traditional Area, Ambassador Abdulai Yakubu Yoo-Naa; the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II; the Wa Naa, Rahid Fuseini Pelpuo; and the Overlord of the Savanna Region, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I.
As part of the exercise, the delegation will visit selected investment sites and operating businesses to assess existing operations and identify opportunities for expansion and collaboration.
These include Savannah Diamond Cement at Buipe and Baba Tree Company Limited in Wa.
The engagements are expected to strengthen collaboration between government institutions, traditional authorities and the private sector in creating an environment conducive to investment.
GIPA Highlights Opportunities for Inclusive Growth
Chief Executive Officer of GIPA, Simon Madjie, said Northern Ghana had significant potential in several sectors capable of supporting industrialisation, employment and improved livelihoods.
He identified commercial agriculture, agro-processing, livestock, renewable energy, tourism, manufacturing, mining, logistics and cross-border trade as areas with opportunities for further investment.
“Northern Ghana is no longer a frontier of potential. It is a destination of opportunity,” Mr Madjie said.
He explained that the roadshow would take investment opportunities directly to the market, strengthen strategic partnerships and create pathways for investors to participate in the region’s economic transformation.
According to him, linking project identification with direct investor engagement would help accelerate investment flows into underserved regions and promote more balanced economic growth across the country.
Partnerships to Support Investment Mobilisation
The roadshow is being organised in partnership with MTN Ghana, with support from the Office of the Chief of Staff, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, the Ghana Free Zones Authority, the Ghana Enterprises Agency, the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat and the Regional Coordinating Councils of the five regions.
The initiative is expected to build momentum ahead of the Invest Ghana Summit, where investment opportunities from across the country will be presented to domestic and international investors.
With 128 identified project profiles and an existing record of foreign investment valued at US$1.91 billion, GIPA is seeking to attract further capital into Northern Ghana and encourage the development of businesses capable of generating jobs and supporting local economies.
The success of the initiative will depend on the ability to convert the identified opportunities into funded projects, sustainable enterprises and tangible economic benefits for communities across the five regions.
