The Ministers for Energy and Green Transition and Finance, John Jinapor and Dr. Ato Forson have inaugurated a committee to oversee the construction of a second gas processing plant in Ghana. This initiative, known as GPP2, aims to increase Ghana’s energy sufficiency and enhance its position in the regional energy market.
The government has approved the construction of this state-owned facility, which will be a significant step in fulfilling the President’s vision for Ghana’s development.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Accra on Monday, Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson disclosed that Ghana spends over $1.1 million dollars annually to buy light crude oil to power thermal plants in Ghana.

He criticized the erstwhile NPP administration for not generating any additional power to the one the first John Mahama administration left in 2016 adding that without Atubo, Gjana would have been in big trouble.
“When we were leaving office we had enough power but nothing was done after we left office”, Dr. Forson bemoaned.
He later urged the Technical committee to expedite action on their work saying”it is so important for our country, it is so important for our welfare and our economy”.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Abu Jinapor expressed worry over lack of additional gas processing plants after the Atuabo plant, stressing the urgent need for another gas processing plant to complement the existing one.
He emphasized that the plant, when completed would create 1,500 direct and indirect jobs stressing the urgent significance of the gas processing plant.
“It feels like this plant should have been done yesterday but be as it may we are determined to construct it”, Hon. Jinapor assured.

The Technical Committee which is responsible for the day to the day operations is chaired by Deputy Minister Yusif Issaka Jajah and has one month within which to present report to the Steering Committee which is co-chaired by the two sector Ministers.
