President of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, is attending the African Union Debt Conference in Lomé, Togo, where African leaders, economists, and policy experts are convening to discuss the continent’s mounting debt challenges and explore sustainable solutions.
The conference, organized under the auspices of the African Union, seeks to address key issues surrounding Africa’s debt sustainability, equitable financing models, and strategies for economic resilience.
It brings together influential voices from across the continent, including current and former heads of state, finance ministers, and representatives of multilateral institutions.
President Mahama, a leading advocate for African integration and inclusive development, is expected to contribute to discussions on debt restructuring, fiscal reforms, and international cooperation.
His presence at the conference reinforces his continued role in shaping continental economic discourse.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Mr. Mahama emphasized the urgency of Africa speaking with one voice on the global financial stage.
“Africa needs a united front in calling for a fairer international financial system—one that takes into account our development needs, vulnerabilities, and aspirations,” he stated.
The conference is seen as a timely intervention, given the growing pressure on African economies in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, global inflation, and external debt servicing difficulties.
The outcomes of the conference are expected to feed into broader continental strategies aimed at ensuring long-term fiscal stability and economic independence for African nations.
