It was a widely condemned decision with concerns expressed about its impact on the health of the students.
That decision and the act has now been cited as one of the reasons the teacher unions are now leading a campaign for the closure of the Senior High Schools.
Government through the Ghana Education Service tacitly endorsed and pushed for the registration of final year students to vote in upcoming elections.

Vice President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers told Sena Nombo on the Gold Power Drive, the voter registration exercise on the campuses breached the agreed protocols for the reopening of schools.
According to him, the teacher unions were assured that the schools would be treated like isolation zones with significant limits on interactions with the outside world.
He revealed the said agreement was behind the decision not to grant parents access to their wards.
Jacob Anaba said this protocol underpinned the all protocols in place to keep the students safe from the virus as well as contain any infection.
The NAGRAT Veep indicated that the unions were taken aback by the registration decision.
When asked why the unions did not resist the decision, he said the unions were not consulted.
He further stated that the unions did not have enough time respond to the decision as it was implemented two days after it was taken.
Jacob Anaba also indicated that the delays in delivering the face masks and other material promised by the government have also made it difficult for all agreed protocols to be followed.
