The government has dismissed more than 1,000 recruits from the country’s security services following the discovery of widespread irregularities in the recruitment process.
Interior Minister Hon. Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak made the announcement during the first edition of the Mahama administration’s Accountability Series on Monday.
According to the minister, a special review committee scrutinized the records of over 5,200 newly enlisted personnel across various security agencies and uncovered that many failed to meet the minimum entry requirements.
“The integrity of our security institutions must be safeguarded at all costs. We cannot compromise on the quality and credibility of personnel entrusted with national security,” Muntaka stated.
The breakdown of the dismissed personnel is as follows:
Ghana Police Service: 320 personnel removed
Ghana Immigration Service: 730 personnel removed
Narcotics Control Commission: 50 personnel removed
The Interior Minister assured the public that the government remains committed to transparency and accountability in all sectors, particularly within the security services.
“This action sends a clear message: recruitment into national institutions will not be subjected to favoritism or manipulation under this administration,” he emphasized.
The committee’s findings are expected to inform ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening recruitment standards and restoring public confidence in Ghana’s security institutions.
