Accra Hearts of Oak forward, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has more or less given up on the club’s quest to defend the league title they won last season.
The Phobians who won treble last season, are on 44 points – 12 points behind sworn rivals and league leaders, Asante Kotoko.
The 21 time league holders are into the finals of the MTN FA Cup after beating Dreams FC 3-2 in the semi finals and Afriyie Barnieh admits that, the league is far from reach.
“I take it match after match, I think this season, we’ve lost one trophy though the league is not yet over but if you calculate the matches left and the points, I think I will say the probability of we losing one trophy is higher.
“So we we’ve talked to ourselves and decided to keep this trophy so you can see us throughout the game that our mentality and everything is to maintain the FA Cup so we are all going out.” Daniel Afriyie Barnieh told StarTimes.
The 2021 CAF U-20 AFCON winner was adjudged MVP of the FA Cup victory over Dreams FC.
Hearts of Oak could extend their FA Cup title haul to a record 11 times if they beat the winner betwee Bechem United and Aduana FC in the finals on June 26 at the Baba Yara Stadium.
