In a remarkable show of corporate compassion, HealthTech Ghana Limited has responded decisively to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund’s (GMTF) appeal for support, donating six dialysis machines and thousands of consumables valued at $132,000 to help save lives across the country.

“Support us in saving lives” has been the rallying cry of the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, since she assumed office in August last year.

Earlier this month, she amplified that call, urging Ghanaians to embrace February, the month of love, as a time to show kindness through cash or equipment donations to the Fund. The initiative was aptly christened the “Kyɛrɛ Wo Dɔ” (Show Your Love) Drive.

Ghanaians have responded warmly, with individuals and organizations trooping to the Fund’s Secretariat with various forms of support.

This afternoon, an extraordinary moment unfolded.

A van pulled into the offices of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. Inside were six brand-new dialysis machines and 2,000 consumables; a donation that would soon be described as one of the most significant contributions received since the launch of the Kyɛrɛ Wo Dɔ Drive.

The donors were HealthTech Ghana, a Ghanaian-owned company specialising in the supply of hospital equipment, consumables, and disposables.

According to Abigail Akua Amoah, National Sales Manager of HealthTech Ghana Limited, the decision to donate was driven by the company’s admiration for the work of the Trust Fund and the commitment of its leadership.

“We have closely monitored the work of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund and the passion, urgency, and integrity with which the Administrator and her team are executing their mandate. We are here today to also show our love,” she said.

She noted that the Fund’s relentless efforts to bridge the gap for patients burdened by the high cost of specialized treatments, particularly kidney care, cancer treatment, and other critical interventions, inspired the donation.

“Today, we are presenting six dialysis machines and consumables to help ease the burden of kidney care in Ghana. This donation is worth $132,000,” she added.

The moment was emotional.

Visibly stunned and overwhelmed with joy, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku struggled to contain her excitement, breaking into smiles and laughter as she expressed her heartfelt gratitude. “This is proper Kyɛrɛ Wo Dɔ,” she said, applauding HealthTech Ghana for truly embodying the spirit of love and solidarity.

She emphasized that the donation would have an immediate and life-changing impact, particularly for renal patients in the Bono Region, where access to dialysis services has long been a challenge due to the absence of dialysis machines.

“For the first time, patients from the Bono Region who previously had to travel all the way to Kumasi for dialysis will now have access closer to home. Some of these machines will be dispatched immediately,” she revealed.

According to her, the donation represents more than equipment; it represents hope, relief, and second chances at life.

“A lot of lives will be saved. When we support the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, we are helping ourselves. Any one of us, including myself, could need this intervention in the future,” she noted.

Ms. Obuobia Darko-Opoku also used the occasion to remind Corporate Ghana that donations to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund attract 100% tax deductions, urging businesses to take advantage of the incentive and partner with the Fund to save lives.

As the Kyɛrɛ Wo Dɔ Drive gathers momentum, HealthTech Ghana’s donation stands as a powerful testament to what is possible when corporate responsibility meets compassion, proving that, indeed, love can save lives.
