Business magnate Ibrahim Mahama has pledged to clear all outstanding debts owed by the late Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala, former Minister for Environment, and Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed, former Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.
The assurance, announced on Sunday, August 10, 2025, comes in honour of Islamic burial principles, which place importance on settling the debts of the deceased before their interment or soon after.
Mr. Mahama’s gesture follows the tragic deaths of the two prominent Muslim statesmen in the August 6 Ghana Air Force helicopter crash in the Adansi-Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region. The accident claimed the lives of eight people, including senior government officials and Air Force crew members, while en route to Obuasi for the launch of a responsible mining initiative.
His commitment has been welcomed by family members, religious leaders, and members of the Muslim community, as it ensures the deceased are honoured in line with their faith.
The burial rites for the two Muslim victims were held earlier today at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra, with Janazah prayers led by the National Chief Imam, followed by interment at the Military Cemetery.
A larger state funeral for all eight victims is scheduled for Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square.
