The court has decided to allow the complete WhatsApp conversation between Richard Jakpa and Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame to be used as evidence. This happened even though Richard Jakpa’s lawyers didn’t want the whole chat to be included.
During questioning, the prosecution tried to present all 68 messages from Richard Jakpa and the two replies from Godfred Dame. However, Thaddeus Sory, who is representing Richard Jakpa, pointed out that the conversation given to the court is different from what’s on his client’s phone. He said the dates on their messages don’t match, which makes him doubt if the messages are real. Sory argued that using the Attorney General’s version of the chats would be unfair.
The prosecution still asked the court to accept the WhatsApp chats, saying they were important to the case. Yvonne Attakora Obuobisa, the Director of Public Prosecutions, said the messages matter because the accused admitted he didn’t give them the whole conversation.
In the end, the judge allowed the WhatsApp conversation from the prosecution to be used as evidence. The judge said that including this evidence would not cause any unfairness in the case.
