President-elect John Dramani Mahama is seeking to strengthen Ghana’s bilateral relations with the United States.
He believes that deepening this relationship is crucial in addressing Ghana’s current economic and energy challenges.
Mahama made these remarks during a courtesy call from US Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Harriet Thompson.
Mahama emphasized the need to revisit and build upon the strong relationship that existed between the US and his previous administration.
He acknowledged the US as a longstanding partner in improving Ghana’s security resilience and expressed his desire to continue cooperation in this area.
The President-elect also highlighted the importance of US assistance in tackling Ghana’s energy sector crisis.
He praised the comparative advantage of US technology and knowledge in this area and expressed his willingness to work closely with the US to resolve these issues.
Mahama’s call for deeper Ghana-US relations comes at a critical time for the country, with the economy facing significant challenges.
The US, along with other countries and organizations such as the UK, China, and the IMF, has congratulated Mahama on his re-election and expressed goodwill towards his administration.
