President John Dramani Mahama has overseen the commissioning of a new Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) vessel in the South Korea, describing the development as a strategic move aimed at strengthening Ghana’s energy supply system and improving fuel distribution across the West African sub-region.
The vessel, known as the Sahara LPG Vessel, is expected to play a key role in transporting LPG to Ghana and neighbouring countries that depend significantly on imported petroleum products.

The commissioning ceremony attracted government officials, energy sector players and international partners who gathered to witness the unveiling of the modern gas carrier, which has been designed to improve the movement and storage of LPG within the region.
Speaking at the ceremony on Thursday, 12 March, President Mahama highlighted the significance of the vessel, stressing that the project represents the outcome of strong collaboration between stakeholders working to improve energy access and reliability.
“Today, we celebrate not only engineering excellence but also the power of partnership. The commissioning of this state-of-the-art, dual-fuel, fully refrigerated LPG carrier reflects the collective vision and collaboration of stakeholders committed to advancing safe, efficient, and responsible energy distribution,” he said.
