Unconfirmed pieces of information indicate that the Minister for Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto will tender his resignation letter to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo today.
The Minister, who holds a Doctorate in Agricultural Economics from the University of Cambridge, has been Minister of Food and Agriculture since 2017 when the administration of Akufo-Addo took over the reins of power.
Mr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has not hidden his presidential ambitions and it is thought that his resignation is to allow him to run for the flagbearership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has been at the heart of the implementation of the Government’s flagship Planting for Food and Jobs, which has received mixed reviews from the public and experts.
