Voter registration: My wife challenged because she is “Frafra” – Damongo MP

Member of Parliament for Damongo Adams Mutawakilu says his wife was challenged at a registration center in his constituency because of her Frafra surname.

He said the incident happened in front of him.

Narrating the incident to Sena Nombo on the Gold Power Drive, Adams Mutawakilu said immediately his wife’s name was called out at the registration center, an agent of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said he was going to challenge her.

He said it later emerged that the basis for the challenge was her surname.

The Damongo MP said his wife uses her original surname “Anaba.”

Adams Mutawakilu revealed that his wife has been voting in the area since 2012 hence he was taken aback by the challenge.

The MP however said he allowed the challenge to be admitted and would accompany his wife to the hearing.

The Damongo MP said he was taken aback by the fact that a family member of his who caters for his children and lives with him in Accra was not challenged.

He said this is despite the fact that the family member unlike his wife rarely visited the constituency.

Adams Mutawakilu believes the Gonja name of this family member may have played the trick for her.
