Members of the New York branch of the National Democratic Congress would not participate in the upcoming US Chapter Conference.
The move which will be a significant blow to the chapter conference in Texas, is in protest of what NDC New York describes as abuse of incumbency on the part of the NDC US chapter executives.
Gold News gathers that the New York branch is the biggest in the US chapter with over 400 registered members and its absence would be serious dent to the credibility of the elections.
New York NDC in a press statement signed by its Secretary Alhaji Baba Suwari said the decision to hold the Conference in Texas was an abuse of due process and would disenfranchise its members.
The decision of NDC New York is the latest in a series of actions the branch says they are taking to have the decision to host the Chapter conference in Texas changed.
Several members of NDC New York would be contesting for various chapter executive positions in the upcoming conference and the decision of their branch would deprive them of the popular support they need to win their respective elections.
Though branch says it values the political careers of its members, NDC New York says it took the decision to boycott the chapter elections because it owes a duty to protect the ideals that distinguishes the NDC from the NPP.
NDC New York is unhappy at the decision to select Texas to host the Chapter conference in blatant disregard of the chapter’s own bidding process to select a branch to host the event.
In line with recent convention, the US chapter started a bidding process for all branches interested in hosting the event to put in a bid to host the event.
At the end of the bid, New York and Ohio were announced as the only branches that put in a bid.
In a shocking twist however the chapter executives settled on Texas as the host of the event despite the branch in question not putting in a bid.
