The Vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang has said that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, led by President Akuffo Addo and Dr. Bawumia, has deliberately denied development projects to constituencies represented by NDC members of parliament.
She made the comment during a visit to the palace of the Wa Naa, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, to kick off her tour of the Upper West Region.
She explained that the NDC was committed to inclusive development, whereas the NPP government has adopted a discriminatory approach that prioritizes only areas that vote for them.
The NDC vice presidential candidate cited President Akuffo Addo’s remarks on Monday October 16, 2023 when he visited flood-affected areas in the Volta Region as clear evidence that the NPP administration intentionally neglects constituencies that have not voted for them.
The President on the said date admitted that he would not have visited the area if it were solely based on votes, as the affected communities do not vote for his political party, the NPP.
The communities involved subsequently complained of neglect as they struggled to get by after many residents lost their livelihoods to the floods.
The comment by the president was widely condemned by Ghanaians.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang argued that such mindset has resulted in most constituencies seeing little or no development and opportunities from the state for eight years, simply because their constituents voted for the NDC.
“Unlike the NDC that takes care of everybody, our opponent don’t necessarily do so. They have already told us about people who don’t vote for them, and for which reason they don’t pay attention to them. So what this means is that, our parliamentary candidates have suffered for eight years. It means that what ever they could have done has been denied them because they voted for the NDC,”
She assured Ghanaians that the NDC will not be deterred by such discriminatory tactics and will continue to advocate for inclusive development that benefits all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.
She urged voters to vote for NDC presidential candidate, Mr John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 7 general elections.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said a vote for Mr Mahama and the NDC would help to reset the country for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
